From The Lay Leader's Corner Clint Black

I greet you in the precious name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  St. Paul is still enjoying some of its finest moments.  We have so many blessings; our cup is over flowing.  Thanks be to God our generous Father, we are blessed to be a blessing to others.  As we continue to celebrate our 210th anniversary, all of us must stay focused on the essentials of mission and ministry.  On June 24, our own, Gloria Turner wrote and produced a play, "From Then Until Now," depicting the complete history of the church from 1791 until present.  This was a first class act, well done in every respect.  We will continue to celebrate throughout the year with significant events to remind us of our rich history and refreshing our memory on the importance of exactly where we were as a people of God.
In an effort to show strong financial support for the mortgage payment, the celebration committee received approval from the Pastor and Church Council to ask each member to give a gift (in addition to your regular tithe) of $210 to St. Paul for  the
Homecoming/Anniversary Celebration  on Sunday, October 14, 2001.  If you save $15.00 per week during the period of July 1 - October 14, this amount is reached.  John Wesley reminds us that the tithe is only a benchmark, not a final goal of giving.  As the people of God, we are to willingly give of our time, talent and resources in the Kingdom building.
Laity Sunday is very important in the life of this church.  It is observed annually and will be done on Sunday, October 21, 2001, at our regular worship service.  The laity of the church will be responsible for the entire service.  A family has been selected to develop a message in accordance with the designated theme for this year.  You can expect a spirited service that will continue to show "holy boldness" in telling the story of Jesus.  This is a good time for all of us to be in partnership will our neighbors by inviting their participation in the worship experience.  Come and be blessed as well as be a blessing to others.
The Lay Leader will continue to support the call to be a minister in partnership with particular emphasis on the following church ministries:

  • Prayer (without ceasing) for the sick and underprivileged
  • Church School
  • Worship (obedient to the Holy Spirit)
  • Disciple Bible Study
  • Church Council
  • United Methodist Men
  • Staff Parish Relations Committee
  • Finance Committee
  • Committee on Lay Leadership
  • School of Christian Growth (District Level)
