Church Council
Clif Sands

The Church Council's agenda for the July 26th meeting included final action of a revised budget for the remainder of 2001.  The Finance Committee recommended changes by reducing the budgeted staff, scheduled program expenses, and overhead costs was implemented. The revised budget was approved.   Prior to this meeting, the Pastor preached on stewardship and the Council Chair made the congregation aware of the financial needs of the church. With the congregation having this knowledge, it was anticipated that the membership would increase their giving. Funds raised  from special projects will enable the Finance Committee  to reconcile anticipated expenses and projected income.  I appreciate your support of the Council's actions to solve this problem.  It is a problem that had resulted primarily from: (1) reduced giving, (2) a procedural change that resulted in all church ministries, for the first time, requesting their funds through the budget and, (3) budgeted personnel positions exceeded St. Paul's needs at this time.

The Church Council is St. Paul's "house of representatives." Every organization, committee, work area or staff person is represented by a voting member on the Council.  Council meetings are open to all members of the church; any member can contribute to a discussion, but only Council members may vote.  Get to know the ministry leadership and help them voice your concerns. Next meeting: August 23, 2001 at 7:30 p.m.
