A Word From Worship  Gwendolyn Terrell

The Worship Committee has been trying for a long time to get banners to hang in the sanctuary.
Mr. Dotson Burns has faithfully stepped in and taken the role of making sure that the banners are hung and the colors go along with the liturgical season. We are truly thankful for Mr. Burns and Mr. Sawyer.
Below is a color chart for the banners and paraments that represent the seasons.

  • Purple, the color of penitence and of royality, is used during Advent and Lent (deep blue is often substituted for purple during Advent).
  • White, (often used with gold) signifies joy and festivity. It is used during the Christmas and Easter seasons and on high holy days during the seasons after Epiphany and Pentecost.
  • Red, is the color of fire and a symbol of the Holy Spirit. It is used on the Day of Pentecost (also for evangelic services, ordinations and consecrations -- whenever the gifts of the Spirit are emphasized). A deep red may symbolize the blood of Christ and may be used during Holy Week.
  • Green, signifies growth and is used during Ordinary Time (the Season After Pentecost). United Methodists have  an option of calling this season "Kingdomtied." Traditionally, this is the season for learning how to live out our faith in all aspects of our lives.
Currently the banners you see are green but during the coming months, you will see the banners change.
