On Saturday, September 8, 2001, the Health and Welfare Ministry sponsored a Health Seminar. The seminar was extremely knowledgeable and rewarding. A total of 26 people attended the seminar. The topics covered were: Stress Management, Podiatry and Diabetes. It was hoped that the knowledge gained would help St. Paul's members to care for and pay more attention to their physical bodies and mental concerns. The first session began after an opening prayer by Rev. Oliver. The presenters came fully prepared and there were pamphlets available on each topic. Dr. Susan Bregman from Prince George's County Mental Health Association, lectured on stress management and reminded her audience to always take time out for relaxation. Dr. Rick Bryson, a practicing physician in Prince George's County, lectured on podiatry and diabetes. He stressed the importance of diet and exercise and provided a lot of information on foot care. The third session was on diabetes and was presented by way of a film by our own nurse, Judy Jenkins May. The film gave attendees head to toe information on diabetes and how to cope with diabetes once it has been diagnosed. Attendees were also tested for diabetes. The Health Seminar was a wonderful experience. All who attended learned a lot. The Health and Welfare Ministry would like to see a better turn out of St. Paul's male members.
