1890-1912

For more than two decades beginning in 1890, the following
dedicated ministers served at St. Paul:

1913-1920
|
|
The cornerstone for the old St. Paul Church
– now the chapel - was laid in 1915 during the pastorate of Reverend
Victor Johnson. Between 1920 –
1965, fifteen ministers pastured at St. Paul.

1920-1923
|
|
Reverend James E. Roberts ministered for three years.
|
|
|
1923-1925
|
|
Reverend John C. Love served St. Paul
for two years during which time his son, the late Bishop
Edgar A. Love, was married in the parsonage.

|
1925-1927
|
|
The church ceiling was redecorated to
look like a sky during the tenure of Reverend Ezra E. Williams and
stayed so for many, many years
|

|
1927-1928
|
|
The Reverend Martin Luther McKenny served one year. He is also the father of retired Reverend
Martin McKenny, who served as interim pastor at St. Paul for four months
after the departure of Reverend Leonard Felton, due to illness.

1929-1930
|
|
The Reverend John F. Monroe, remembered
for being an extremely organized minister, planned his program
a year in advance as illustrated in one of his bulletins entitled
"Program for the Year. *

1932-1937
|
|
Reverend Joshua 0. Williams, Reverend
Bristol Pogue, and Reverend J.H. Lovell served the
congregation.

|
|
1938-1941
|
|
While Reverend Charles E. Smallwood was
the pastor, we became the Oxon Hill-Chapel Hill Charge.
|
|
|
1941-1942
|
|
We became a part of the Oxon
Hill-Jackson Charge during Reverend B. Miller's one-year tenure.
|
|
|
|
|
|
1943-1950
|
|
During the seven-year pastorship of
Reverend Charles B. Ashton, the cemetery was cleaned and enlarged
by the addition of an adjacent road. The exterior of the church was
completely renovated, the walls were plastered and painted, and the
mortgage was paid in full.

1950-1951
|
|
Reverend Hosea Pinkney served the church for only one year.
|
|
|
1951-1961
|
|
Reverend Robert Owen Johnson, along with
his wife and daughter formed an energetic team at St. Paul for nine
years. Mrs. Johnson served as president of the Women's Christian
Society (WCS) for several years, while Gwendolyn played the organ. During
this active period the following major accomplishments took place:
stained glass windows were installed; the aisles were carpeted; the
Fellowship Hall was erected; and the organ was purchased.

1962-1965
|
|
Reverend Williams G. Simms was appointed
upon the departure of Rev. Robert Johnson and he retired from
active ministry a few years later.
