ORGANIZATIONS OF

ST. PAUL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

 

Please review all Church Ministries listed below in alphabetical order.

 

ACOLYTES - Boys and girls (ages 9-12) who will serve during the worship hours, assisting the pastor and church.  Contact Marcia Black.

 

AUDIO/VISUAL – Responsible for the maintenance, purchase recommendations, operation and reproduction of all audio and visual materials of the church.  Contact Michael Daniel.

 

BIRTHDAY COMMITTEE - A committee made up of birthday month captains and members of the entire church family under your particular birth month from January through December.  Contact Cora Marshall.

 

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY - Serves the needs of all children within the church and the community.  Contact Brenda Mason or Kim Cruz.

 

CHOIRS - Interested church attendees are encouraged and welcome to join the Chancel Choir, Gospel Choir, Children/Youth Choir, Men's Chorus, Voices or Praise (made up of all women), and the Young Adult Choir.  Contact:  Rothel Carter (Gospel Choir), Andrea Robinson (Chancel Choir), Frances Suggs (Voices of Praise), Cecil Hopkins (Men’s Chorus), Jackie Hayes (Youth Choir), Ruth Derr (Children’s Choir) and Sam Kendrick (Young Adults).

 

CHURCH SCHOOL/SUNDAY SCHOOL - Is responsible for the total program of education and biblical study for all age groups in the Church.   Teachers, musicians, and Special Program Coordinators (e.g., Christmas, Black History, and Easter Programs) are always needed.  Contact Robert Gaines or Viola Wilson.

 

COMMITTEE ON LAY LEADERSHIP (FORMERLY KNOWN AS NOMINATING COMMITTEE) - Nominates to the Charge Conference names of persons to function in the administrative and program work areas of the church.   The pastor chairs the committee.  Contact the Pastor or Linda McNeil.

 

COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE – Individuals responsible for the internal and external written communications of the church.  This includes publications, the website and advertising.  Contact Brenda Mason or Judy Adams.

 

COMMUNION STEWARDS - Adult women who assist the pastor in serving the sacraments of Holy Communion.  Contact Eloise Russell.

 

COMPUTER COMMITTEE - Persons who are computer literate and skilled in the basic use of computers and will use these skills to develop and maintain the technology requirements of the Church.  Contact Amos Feggins or Elton Lassiter. 

 

EDUCATION COMMITTEE - Designs and recommends to the Church Council of the education program of the church, facilitating the use of resources based on curriculums which are sanctioned by the General Board of Discipleship of our denomination.  Contact Dotson Burns.

 

EMERGENCY LOAN FUND – Confidentially takes requests and renders decisions for emergency loans requested of the congregation.  Contact the Pastor.

 

EVANGELISM COMMITTEE - Works with the pastor in making evangelism an ongoing priority ministry of the church to lead people to a profession or renewal of faith in Jesus Christ.  Contact Ralph Young.

 

FAMILY MINISTRY - Focuses on fellowship and ministry to all families within the church.  Contact Ernest or Judy Adams.

 

FINANCE COMMITTEE - Compiles an annual budget for the church and administers the funds to the church according to instructions from the Church Council.  Contact:  Winston Macon, Chair; Janet Sales, Treasurer; or Florence Perry, Financial Secretary.

 

FOOD PANTRY COMMITTEE – Secures, inventories and distributes food from the pantry which is secured from the county government. Contact Karen Dorsey.

 

GOLDEN AGE - A group of retirement age adults who seek to know God, to develop a supportive fellowship, and to have fun (e.g., travel, arts and crafts, and various other activities).  Contact Verdelle Sands.

 

GREETERS - Welcomes all persons entering the church on each Sunday to worship and distribute mementos to all first time visitors.  Contact Daisy Young.

 

HEALTH AND WELFARE - Keeps the church and community aware and involved in the direct service to persons in need of health care, childcare, aging, etc., and coordinates such ministry.  Contact Joan Byrd.

 

HISTORY/RECORDS COMMITTEE - Documents, preserves and records the historical data of the church and its ministry.  Contact Ellen Amey. 

 

HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE - Coordinates and occasionally prepares refreshments or meals in connection with specific church activities.  Contact Martha Horton.

 

LAY MEMBERS - Serve as official representatives to the Annual Conference for the local church and reports to the local church the activities and general focus of the Baltimore-Washington Annual Conference.  Contact Ann Burke and Albert Powell.

 

LAY LEADER - A person who serves as a liaison between the general congregation and the pastor and also keeps the church informed of the ministries throughout the Annual Conference.  Contact Clinton Black.

 

LIBRARY COMMITTEE - Maintains and catalogues books and periodicals of a variety of Christian publications within the church.  Contact Ellen Amey.

 

LITURGIAL DANCE GROUP - Persons who give biblical and liturgical interpretations through dance.  Contact LaTonca Harris or Carol Jackson.

 

MEMBERSHIP SECRETARY - A person who keeps an accurate record of the current total membership of the church in the categories of preparatory, associate, affiliate and full membership.  Also maintains records of baptisms, deaths, marriages, etc.  Contact Bernice McGhee. 

 

 

NURSERY COMMITTEE - Provides for care and attending of our "little ones" in the church's nursery during worship hours and appropriate intervals.  Contact Debra Myers.

NURSING UNIT – Provides first aid and general aid during all services held in the sanctuary.  Contact Judy Jenkins-May.

 

OUTREACH MINISTRY - This committee serves as an ad hoc committee under the auspices of the Bishop's Anti-Drug & Violence Initiative of our denomination.  The work areas of Social Concerns, Evangelism, Health & Welfare and Missions functions as a coordinated coalition with the SAC.  Any interested person may join this ministry.

SERVANTS HUMBLY SURENDERED – An organized group of adults within the church committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ and outreach.  Contact Glen Wilson.

 

SPEECH CHOIR – Persons that have possess or want to develop the talent of speaking in public forums and give interpretations of the bible through reading.  Contact Jean Ivory.

 

STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS COMMITTEE (SPRC) - Confers and counsels with the pastor.  Confers with the pastor's family.  The committee confers with all staff of the church advising such persons and the congregation on matters impacting upon the relations between the pastor/staff.  The committee also interprets to the people the nature and function of the ministry within the United Methodist Church.  Contact Shirley Smith.

 

STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE - Encourages stewardship of all members in the areas of tithing, use of their God-given talents, and volunteering their services to the church.  Contact Fanseen Smith.

 

TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE - Coordinates usage of the church van and acquisition of other means of transportation when necessary.  Contact a trustee.

 

TUTORIAL PROGRAM - An "out-reach" ministry (under the Bishop's Initiative that provides and facilitates academic assistance to any student within the church or community to improve their academic skills  (e.g., reading, math, science, writing, etc.).  Contact Ed Jackson.

 

TRUSTEES – The trustees are responsible for the all capital assets of the church, the security of those assets and the maintenance and disposition of those assets.  Contact Larry McNeil.

 

UNITED METHODIST MEN (UMM) - Is open to all men and is an organized, chartered unit of men who seek to know Jesus Christ, to grow spiritually and be supportive of the total mission and ministry of the United Methodist Church.  Contact Jacob Terrell.

 

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN (UMW) - Is open to all women.   It is an organized, chartered unit of women whose purpose is to know God and to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and expand its concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.  Contact Mildred McGuthry.

 

UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWHSIP (UMYF) - An organized group of youth (ages 12 - 18) within the church.  The UMYF is open to all youth seeking to know Jesus Christ and to participate in the total ministry and mission of the church and community.  Contact Ruth Derr.

 

USHERS - The Ushers are persons (male, female and includes youth members) who assist the church and pastor in the worship experience during worship services.  Contact Eddie Dorsey or Charles Campbell.

 

WORSHIP COMMITTEE - Works with the pastor in aiding the congregation in becoming aware of the meaning, purpose and practice of worship.  Contact Gwendolyn Terrell.

 

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY - An organized body of persons within the church and community between the ages of 18-45 committed to the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. The young adults are also involved in the total life of the church and its ministry.  Contact Glen Wilson or Joyce Daniels.
