The first class in Computer Skills and Touch Typing at the Tanner Community Resource Center (TCRC) concluded at the end of May.

Seven participants were enrolled in this class: Rhutelia Black, Ann Burke, Marian Conaway, Lauretta Ellis, Charles Hunt, Joseph Weems (deceased), and Vanessa Wells.

The instructors, Harry Townsend and Alexander Faison, taught Computer Skills and Touch Typing respectively. Vanessa Wells used her computer skills and experience serving as an in-class coach and substitute teacher when needed. Vanessa developed the idea of performing class projects which were practical in nature. This provided participants with a link between technical skills and everyday use of the computer.

The class ran from November until May. Participants learned how to set the computer and moved on to more complex computer skills. The Touch Typing lessons taught participants to use the keyboard without looking at the keys. Mr.  Faison, who learned to type as a radio operator in the military explained the fundamentals of this segment of the course.

The class lovingly remember Joseph Weems who started the class and participated as long as he was able. The class sends their prayers to his wife and family.

Many thanks to Alex and Harry for volunteering their time to teach these classes! -- Ann Burke
